A Woman of Faith, Grace, and Grit
Mya Cash, Miss Oregon 2025, is a vibrant force of faith, advocacy, and purpose. A first-generation college student, former professional dancer, and powerful public speaker, Mya is using her platform to elevate voices that are often unheard. Her story is one of transformation—and she’s only just getting started.
Academic Purpose and Ministry Calling
Mya is currently studying ministry at New Hope Christian College, preparing to lead faith-based women’s programs across the Pacific Northwest. Her dream is to combine her faith, voice, and personal journey to empower women navigating illness, isolation, or self-doubt. She’s also working as a dental assistant, balancing work and school with grace and discipline.
Project Butterfly: Shining a Light on Lupus
Mya’s Community Service Initiative, Project Butterfly, was inspired by her mother’s diagnosis with lupus—a chronic autoimmune disease that disproportionately affects women of color. Before her mom’s diagnosis, Mya had never heard of lupus. Now, she’s an official advocate for the Lupus Foundation of America and a national voice for awareness, equity, and support.
Through Project Butterfly, Mya provides care kits, hosts awareness events, and tells her story to bring comfort and strength to others. The butterfly is the symbol of lupus—and to Mya, a symbol of resilience.
Honoring Heritage and Leading With Identity
Mya is proudly Native American, and currently working to reconnect with her Cahuilla tribal heritage. Her cultural identity plays a major role in her mission, as she advocates for equity in healthcare and honors the strength of Indigenous and Latinx women.
She’s also a first-generation college student —and never lets circumstances define her potential.
Dance as Worship and Storytelling
A former ballerina with the Houston Ballet, Mya brings a powerful blend of technical skill and storytelling to the stage. Her Miss America talent is an original dance piece that reflects her journey, values, and faith. For Mya, dance is more than performance—it’s prayer in motion.
A Vision for the Future
Mya’s goals for the next five years include:
🦋 Competing for the job of Miss America
🦋 Mailing Project Butterfly kits to all 50 states
🦋 Launching a faith-based wellness retreat for women
🦋 Reconnecting fully with her Cahuilla tribal roots
Mya’s journey is defined not by crowns, but by calling. And she’s answering it—one butterfly at a time.
